Ron Paul & the Flying Spaghetti Monster
December 26, 2007 by ElfNinosMom
Ron Paul recently stated, in response to a question, that he does not believe in the theory of evolution.
I guess this still leaves open the possibility that he believes in the omnipotence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Either that, or he believes the earth is only 6000 years old, and that The Flintstones is a documentary. Based on his terminology used (i.e., a “creator”), I’d guess it’s the latter.
First of all I’d like to say that Dr. Paul seems to be quite confused. Evolution is not a theory, it’s a fact because it can be observed. Evolutionary theory explains the fact of evolution. Therefore there is nothing to accept, or not accept.
Besides, who’s to say that a creator didn’t also create evolution?
I will never understand how a scientist (Ron Paul is a medical doctor) can ignore evolution as if it does not exist, and instead support the theory that an invisible albeit omnipotent being made everything and is now using us as, what? An ant farm, only with humans instead? Does he watch us through the glass to see what we’ll do next? Are earthquakes really just this giant invisible being deciding to poke an area with a stick? Is global warming really caused because he left us too close to the heater vent?
I will support no candidate who throws logic and fact out the window in favor of religion. That’s what got us into the mess we’re in now. I’m not necessarily looking for an atheist, but I’m getting pretty sick of these religious extremists running the show. If history has proven one thing, it is that religion combined with power is a serious threat to peace and prosperity everywhere.
