WHEREAS the government of the United States should return to its historical libertarian tradition of avoiding entangling alliances, foreign quarrels, and military adventures and;
WHEREAS the armed forces of the United States have invaded Iraq, a foreign nation that neither directly attacked nor imminently threatened to attack the United States and;
WHEREAS the injustice and imprudence of this invasion cannot be undone by the continued presence of the armed forces of the United States in Iraq and;
WHEREAS the stability and security of Iraq lie outside the jurisdiction of the government of the United States;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Libertarian Party National Committee calls on the government of the United States to withdraw the armed forces of the United States without undue delay.
First, I am against the war in Iraq & do not believe we have the right to invade soveriegn nations. However, I am concerned about what would happen if we pulled out immediately. Would it make it even worse, although I am not sure that is possible?
Hiya, Dee! I honestly don’t know what will happen if we leave immediately, but I agree with you 100%, we had no business invading a sovereign nation in the first place.
Every time I think about the violence in Iraq, I cannot help but believe that our presence there is the cause of it. After all, if we were invaded by another country, how would we react? It is very likely that we would react even more violently.
For that reason, I’m not altogether sure that the Iraqis are doing anything we wouldn’t do ourselves, if we were in their shoes. Perhaps if we withdraw, the violence in that country would become greatly reduced.
I don’t think we caused the violence but rather aggrevated already underlying tensions. The area has a long history of ethnic and religous conflict.
There was no plan for providing for a new government.
I know how I would react if a foreign armed force invaded my neighborhood. I would probably try to make IEDs and try to shoot the invaders. If the invaders then killed my friends and family members I would probably devote my remaining days to taking out as many of them as possible, or causing them the most pain I could. If I caught any of my neighbors were helping the invaders, I would consider them an even worse enemy. If only people would walk a mile in the other person’s moccasins…..
