Little-known Must-see movies

I watch a lot of movies, since I have for years subscribed to all the premium movie channels. I thought I’d make a list of a few really good movies which most people have probably never seen or even heard of before.

Secondhand Lions (starring Robert Duvall, Haley Joel Osment, and Michael Caine) Two crotchety old brothers live on a farm, where it is rumored that they are wealthy. Lots of relatives show up, along with lots of salesmen (though they shoot at the salemen). Finally a relative drops off her son, wanting him to find out where the money is, but instead he bonds with the old men over wild stories of how they spent their younger years.

Fraility (starring Matthew McConaughy and Bill Pullman) Police have been searching for the God’s Hand Killer for years, when suddenly a man appears and says he can help them. Creepy with a good twist.

Wonderland (starring Val Kilmer) The true story of how porn king John Holmes ended up involved in a mass murder. No porn in it, because this all happened after his porn career was over. Lisa Kudrow is surprisingly good as Holmes’ wife, who he hasn’t lived with in years. Paris Hilton has a cameo which lasts less than one minute; I’m pretty sure her character is called “skank on boat”.

Neverwas (starring Ian McKellon, William Hurt, and Nick Nolte) A young Yale-educated psychiatrist returns home to work at the psychiatric hospital where his novelist father had been treated (and the treatment failed, since he killed himself), and there he finds the secret behind his father’s most brilliant work.
