From TIME Magazine:
At least 15 military service members or their relatives are believed to have been infected with hepatitis by a nurse suspected of stealing their painkillers during surgery.
The nurse, retired Army captain Jon Dale Jones, was arrested this month in Miami on federal charges of assaulting three of those patients and possession of a controlled substance by fraud.
Federal prosecutors said they believe Jones spread the disease in 2004 during surgeries at an El Paso military hospital by diverting fentanyl — a powerful painkiller often used for anesthesia — from patients to himself.
The outbreak — and the nearly three-year-long criminal investigation that followed — apparently did not prevent Jones from continuing to work as nurse in Texas and at least two other states and Washington, D.C.
Jones, 45, has pleaded not guilty and was released on bond. “We are confident that when everything comes out in court, he will be exonerated and acquitted,” said Jim Darnell, the nurse’s lawyer.
Details surrounding the case remain sketchy. It’s not clear how Jones allegedly transmitted the potentially deadly disease to his patients or obtained the drugs they were supposed to have received during surgery. Jones has denied using dirty needles.
Court records show the alleged victims include the son of a former Fort Bliss commanding general, an active-duty soldier, the wife of a retired Marine Corps gunnery sergeant and a retired Army chief warrant officer.
Hepatitis C is a a blood-borne disease that can lead to cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer. It is treatable, but there is no cure. Symptoms vary but can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, pain and jaundice.
How can you accuse a nurse of sticking a dirty needle into an IV line when we use the needless system where a needle is not needed to inject a medication. Do your homework folks, especially you persons that profess to be healthcare experts that know we no longer use needles to place medication into a patients IV line!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Rudy. You might want to take that up with TIME Magazine, since all I did was reproduce what they had written. I provided the link, so send them a letter to the editor or something. Yelling at me is a waste of time, because I don’t know if they do or don’t do what you claim. All I know is what I read.
So all you do is “reproduce” what is written without any verification of ANY kind???? Wow, that’s some quality webpage, nothing like perpetuating potential lies and wrong information about a person. This is a perfect example of how messed up our society has become. Someone is assumed guilty in the press and then has to prove themselves innocent. I don’t know this anesthetist, but I do feel that a LARGE part of the truth is being left out or missed. So why would we not just wait to hear all of the evidence. Though the story just doesn’t make sense, I have a feeling that the fact that a “commanding general” is involved that is has become such an issue. I bet if it was some unfortunate black women that was possibly infected we would not hear A WORD!! I sure would hate for myself or my family to be wrongfully accused of something. What a MESSED up society we live in, no wonder why other countries can not stand our government. Our constitution needs to do something with the first ammendment, I am not fully convinced that our forefathers intended for the “freedom of the press” to include anything, I mean ANYTHING someone wants to write about a private citizen you.
Rich, what exactly does this article have to do with race? No one mentioned race, except you.
People like YOU, who want to deny others their First Amendment rights (all while you are falsely accusing them of malfeasance, yet expect your own First Amendment rights to be upheld) are what’s wrong with this country.
I reproduced a portion of a Time Magazine article, with a link to the full article. If you disagree with what they wrote, take it up with them. It is completely reasonable for me to conclude that a respected source like Time Magazine verified their information; it’s not as if I posted an article from The National Enquirer, after all.
If you don’t like that, or if you are too stupid to understand it, then don’t read my blog. Simple.
Race was a comparison, Einstein. And I read this blog thinking it was quality. And no, I am not “too stupid” to understand that YOU are no different than the Enquirer, NO DIFFERENT!
TRASH
Rich: Bye bye, dumbass.
