“Jersey” Girl’s Sordid Past – June 23, 2009.
The above link contains federal court documents detailing the 1986 criminal arrest and prosecution of Danielle Staub, one of the wealthy “housewives” on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Staub’s past came to light during the show, when the other “housewives” found a book written by her ex-husband, detailing her arrest in a kidnapping plot hatched due to a cocaine deal gone bad. During the final episode of the season, Staub declared
There are only two things in that book that are true. I changed my name, and I was arrested.
However, if the information in these court records is to be believed, there’s a LOT more to it than that.
I still have no idea why she thought none of this would come to light if she starred in a well-known reality television series. Honestly, I feel kind of bad for her, and especially for her children, now that the allegations against her can no longer be plausibly denied even if some of them really are untrue.
All in all, Danielle should have just remained an anonymous “housewife” in wealthy Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Perhaps she did the show because she needed the money, since she has mentioned that she will lose her home if her second ex-husband doesn’t pay her the settlement she is owed, but it seems like it would have been much easier if she had instead just not continued to live beyond her means.
I know, her children are in school there, and it’s not good to uproot the kids if that can be avoided. Well, it’s also not good for the kids to find out that their mother was a coked-out prostitute who was involved in a kidnapping scheme, either. I don’t care if it happened over 20 years ago, her kids didn’t need to know that, at least not until they are old enough to understand.
Mom of the Year, she ain’t.
However, all that being said, I still like Danielle better than I like that wackjob “housewife” Teresa Giudice, though. LOL
Very diplomatic…..As much as I want to find the good in this woman, as a mother and everything I’ve seen, read including the most recent article in “US Weekly”, I literally detest this human so-called being..She exposed her children, pointed fingers at everyone for her own past and signed on national TV KNOWING this would be blow up in her face…Jacqueline no longer speaks to, trusts, nor will allow to see her new baby and finally feels want her family felt and knew….TROUBLE, DRAMA, NARCISSISM, SELF VICTIMIZING RUTHLESS all about ME. ME. ME…That’s simply the bottom line.
OH and she trashed Jacqueline now too….SEE?? Couldn’t go out with grace and simply say the friendship was nice while it lasted..OH HELL NO!! Sorry, Teresa reacted just the way I would have at my dinner party which by the way the producers made her invite because of the finale….This disgusting piece of garbage deserves all that’s coming to her, period.

Again…we can agree to disagree my friend….for you to have an opinion stating you like Danielle over that wackjob Teresa was a pretty strong statement…you had it coming and wanted my reponse so here it is……..who are YOU to judge…..everyone was laughing and having a blast and along comes Ms. Buzzkill (maybe your like her, don’t know) after the disgust of reading a modern day “Scarface” type book and having that person say “pay attention” as if an arrest and name change were the only truths and attempt to humiliate her at a dinner Danielle was NOT invited to….she snapped, period….was it lady like…NO…is she subject to human error and admitted she’s never done such a thing before….get my point now……don’t take what I said so literally…..you weren’t there and neither was I.. so god knows how one responds in such situations.

I actually assumed you wouldn’t really throw a table and act like Teresa did, since few people would do something of that nature in a public setting. I guess I was wrong though, LOL.
As far as I’m concerned, this is just a friendly conversation about a shared interest in a reality show. I wasn’t attacking you, as the comment clearly reflects (the LOL followed by a winky face means that the person who wrote it is joking) so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t attack me.
However, what I do find very interesting is that you seem to take others’ opinions about the show far too personally, and that you seem to care far more about these people’s trials and tribulations than you ever should, given that it’s just a reality tv show. Assumably you don’t even know them since you’re not posting from New Jersey, so you really shouldn’t care one way or the other about them or their problems, except insofar as their value as a source of entertainment.
Look, these women knew that their lives would be placed in the public domain, for everyone to gawk at and talk about, when they signed up to do the show. They knew they would be subjected to derision and ridicule, they agreed for that to happen (and probably even wanted that to happen since it’s good for ratings), and they were paid very well for their trouble. This was hardly a hidden camera show, so they knew exactly what they were doing in front of the entire country, and knew (or should have known) how it would be perceived. I therefore don’t feel sorry for any of them, and neither should anyone else.
Just to be very clear, they’re ALL wackjobs in my opinion, not just Teresa, and not just Danielle. I simply find that level of dysfunction among well-to-do women to be absolutely hilarious, and I don’t apologize for that.
Even Jacqueline (who I thought was the normal one) admitted to previously having been arrested for fighting (which is definitely not normal). Dina’s charity isn’t registered with the IRS (so donations are not tax-deductible, and there is no oversight of how the money is spent). Dina’s and Caroline’s father-in-law was murdered in a mob hit and found in the trunk of his Lincoln Continental, yet they try to claim it is “hurtful” for people to bring up the Mafia in conversations about them. Teresa appeared to be spending money like water, but apparently doesn’t pay her bills since she is being sued by three different companies (her in vitro fertilization clinic – so much for her “bubbies” causing a pregnancy – a vacuum cleaner company, and for her fancy staircase). Danielle is … well, she’s just a complete mess, LOL.
It’s not as if any of these women didn’t know these issues would come up if they did a popular reality tv show. They had to have known it would happen, because they were probably cast for that very reason.
Then again, if they weren’t all wackjobs, I wouldn’t bother watching the show. Their bizarre behavior is the ONLY reason I watch it.
So …. do I personally think ladies should act that way? No sirreebob, I do not, but I never said any of them was a lady, either. Would I ever act like Danielle or Teresa, or any of them for that matter? No way in hell would that ever happen. Do I think it’s entertaining to watch other people make complete fools of themselves on national television? You betcha.

I am a professional writer in “real life”, where I write about crime for a living. I don’t cover the same things you see in the newspapers and magazines, though. I cover crime strictly from a Criminology viewpoint.

I read that Danielle was the one who brought up “the book” to the producers BEFORE shooting of RHNJ began. Nobody knew about the book before Danielle told the BRAVO people. So it sounds as if she set this whole “storyline” in motion. Kinda creepy – I don’t think that I would have the guts to expose something so hidden in my past to the entire world.
