I was one of the billion people worldwide who watched the Michael Jackson memorial today. It was actually very touching, and I have to admit that I teared up more than once, especially when they showed the very young Michael I remember, and especially when his young daughter spoke at the end. The latter broke my heart, but admittedly it would have broken my heart even if her father had worked in a widget factory.
That being said, there was one thing stated which had me fuming at the television set.
That statement in question was that God “took” Michael.
Maybe, but only if the doctor who gave him the deadly drugs thinks he’s God. That’s very possible, since many doctors do have a god complex. However, as for the Almighty taking Michael Jackson, that simply isn’t what happened.
I realize that it may make some people feel better to believe otherwise. However, had the Almighty taken Michael, then Michael would have died from natural causes, even if those causes were secondary to an accident. Instead, he died of very unnatural causes. He died because some extremely unethical doctors wanted to line their pockets with his money, and they wanted to rub shoulders with a mega-celebrity, so they supplied him with any and every drug he wanted, regardless of whether it was safe, or even if it might kill him. They played Russian Roulette with his life, and he lost.
Were it not for those doctors playing god, there is every reason in the world to believe that Michael Jackson would be alive right now, and for years to come. Michael Jackson was a reasonably healthy middle-aged man, as evidenced by the rehearsal video filmed just two days prior to his death, and as evidenced by the fact that no cause of death was found during two separate autopsies absent toxicology reports.
The cops don’t believe God is to blame, either. According to publicized reports, LAPD Homicide Division served search warrants yesterday, upon multiple doctors involved in Michael Jackson’s care.
Methinks somebody – maybe more than one somebody – is in one helluva lot of trouble. Methinks they should be too, no matter who was found dead with bottles – plural – of a deadly anesthetic only used in operating rooms found in their house. Michael’s celebrity has nothing to do with whether what those doctors did was right, or wrong. If they did that same thing to a homeless guy, with no family and no one to care if he lived or died, it would be equally wrong, and equally illegal.
I don’t care if Michael wanted the drugs, and I don’t care how much money he had to buy them. These doctors took the Hippocratic Oath of “First, do no harm” so that they could get a license to practice medicine – which placed them in a position of public trust – and then killed their patient by supplying (and possibly administering) any number of extremely dangerous and even deadly drugs to him, most if not all of which appeared to be unnecessary, and even medically contraindicated in those dosages and combinations.
Personally, I hope they figure out which doctor gave him the Diprivan (as well as anything else which may have played a part in his death, if determined to have not been medically desirable given his health status) and charge them with second-degree murder, thus holding them up as a warning to all others.
God tends to get the blame for a lot of things. I am believe in free will; that means God allows us to make choices. Our choices have consequences.
After Christian singer/songwriter/teacher Rich Mullins died many made the same statement that God took him. Mullins died because he was thrown out of his jeep CJ and run over by truck. God did not take Mullins. Mullins made a bad choice.
God took neither Mullins or Jackson both were allowed to make choices that had consequences.
I agree with you, Dee.

First Things First. I am the same Age as Michael Jackson, I am ” White” And I will say there was no comparison Between Michael and all the others that was on TV During Those Years, Michael was the Tops, and During that Era I grew up Watching The OsBournes on Black & White TV , The Monkey’s, The Jackson 5. Although I was a Crazed Beatle Fan . I Loved The Jackson 5 Thee Most -Nothing will ever Top M.J., I loved Michael Jackson.
They can say all the Negative Terrible things they want about Michael and it will absolutely not change How I feel About Mr M.J.J. Like The Bible States when they was about to stone to death M-M Jesus stated whoever is without sin Cast The First Stone. It’s Kinda like the saying whenever you point a finger at a person there’s four more pointing back at you. Here’s a saying from AA “Think”- “Think”- “Think”
For anybody who is still a racist! And is a country Lover, Or Rock Fan Remember Elvis Died From Perscription drugs on the Toliet, Johnny Cash was on the needle, Willie, George Jones Etc Etc Etc. As a descent Human Being Lets Let Michael Jackson R.I.P
Hi, Greg. Sorry your comment got caught in the spam filter, I have no idea why that happened since you didn’t include any links.
I’m not sure what your point is, though, since no one here is saying anything negative about Michael Jackson. I’m sure not, because I have nothing really negative to say about him. Look a little further back in the blog, and you will see what I mean.
The negativity is directed toward the doctors who gave Michael enough drugs to kill a horse (or maybe even an elephant, if today’s news reports are any indication). They deserve that negativity a thousandfold, since he’d still be alive if not for them.
If an unethical doctor killed Michael Jackson, whether intentionally or accidentally, I don’t want to see it swept under the rug, and I don’t just want their license pulled. I want them criminally prosecuted, and I would want that even if Michael were just some poor unknown homeless guy.
For that reason, with all due respect to you, I have absolutely no intention of remaining silent on the issue.
Johnny Cash had been on drugs years ago but was clean.
Also, The statement “God took Michael Jackson”. Is not necessarily negative. There are some who use that statement to explain tragic loss of someone they love, admire, respect or other wise early demise.
Excellent point, Dee. It never even occurred to me that Greg might be referring to the phrase in the title, rather than the content itself.
Greg, I assure you that I meant nothing negative against Michael by saying that. I was merely pointing out that when God “takes” people, He doesn’t do so by having doctors give them massive quantities of drugs; so for that reason the unethical doctors – not God – are to blame for Michael’s death.
Maybe he misread the title as statement rather than a question.
“God Took Michael Jackson” sounds a lot different than “Did God Take Michael Jackson?”
Hello Again No DeeZone and ElfNinosMom I was Talking about The Press and How it just keeps Growing and Growing about all or How Many Pills and IV Drugs Michael was on. Yes Yes Yes The Doctors should be Held Accountable and the Ones who knew The meds were for Michael Jackson and Prescribed M.J. Narcodics and IV Drugs and Depro a Surgical Iv Drug Should Be Charged with Murder. As Far as the Pills(Narcodics) The Doctors didn’t run the a check thru the system or they would have caught this. Michael paid the biggest price for his part (Death) Now The Doctors need to pay for there part. GodBless The Jackson Family and May God Bless The Children, My Personal Hopes are that the 3 children stay together with the Jackson Family.
GodBless
Greg
We as people who believe in any higher power, often rely on “God took them” as a way to help us deal with loss. We have incredible faith that has been instilled from the time we were children. We have to, otherwise what is the point of being here?
I agree with you that Michael Jackson did not have to die. Even though the full reports are not out yet, what has been released is enough for me. If he were a homeless man or your average Joe, would these doctors have been so quick to give him what he wants? No I am sure not. Yes they took an oath and that oath was overshadowed by greed. Unfortunately, I do not think this is an isolated occurance just one that ended in a terrible tragedy.
Yes, these doctors should be held liable. There are so many doctors who have been stripped of their licenses for prescribing ridiculous amounts of pain medications to the average person and yet the prescriptions that we know of for Michael Jackson were more than ridiculous.
My father in law has torn his entire family apart not only by marrying a woman three months after my mother in law passed away, but he married a woman who is addicted to prescription drugs. She is in a fog most days and had od’d on more than one occasion. What I find baffling is that my father who is prescribed vicodin, will never take more than a half a day even though his script calls for one every 6hours for fear he would become addicted. This woman has a doctor that will give her everything and anything and yet he cannot see that she is in need of rehab. The amount of medication that I found in her “pill box” is enough to kill someone. Morphine pills, neurontin, dilaudid, 3 or four anti depressants, and too many other to mention. When they were first married she tried to go to my father in laws doctor who is the third generation of doctors that his entire family has gone to. She wanted a doctor closer than hers who was two hours away. When she came home she was furious, as he looked at her list of what she takes and her explanations of why and refused to treat her. GOOD FOR HIM!!! If there were more doctors like that then maybe we wouldn’t have lost such a talented man that still had so much goodness to offer this world.
Halfpint,
As person of faith I have a problem with “God took them”. It most cases it is theologically incorrect. Yes, God took Enoch and Elijah home. In other examples in the Bible God allowed the consequences of a human’s choice to end an untimely demise. There were a couple of cases of someone being struck dead i.e. Annais and Saphira in Acts. That was not the case.

Good Morning Dee~ Isn’t that the beauty of each of us having our own faith? We all feel what we feel and it is our own interpretation. As a hairstylist who has every race and religion in my clientele, I never get into this conversation. It isn’t one that will ever be able to be concluded and only causes disagreement. But iI respect your comment and outlook. THank you
God might’ve taken Michael after Michael gave him self up. but God would’ve never told Michael to take all those Drugs and say come with me.
