It’s possible a jury may find him insane, based on that information, but it’s more likely they will view him as such a serious threat that they will be unwilling to take a chance that he will one day be released, even if they believe him legally insane.

Yes, I am well aware that juries are not supposed to consider those factors when determining guilt. However, in reality, juries do it all the time.

Was he legally insane, meaning he did not know right from wrong when the crime was committed? Given that he didn’t even leave the scene, it’s altogether possible. I’d need to review the police interrogation and confession to give you a firm opinion on that, though.

However, I would not feel at all comfortable leaving his fate in the hands of psychiatrists and psychologists. If the behavior was incited by drugs, they may find it difficult if not impossible to hold him for life; yet if he is an addict, chances are he will use again and then we could easily be looking at a similar set of murders. Furthermore, I find voluntary drug abuse to be an aggravating factor, not a mitigating one. In other words, if the crime occurred because he took drugs to the point of insanity, he is even more responsible than he would otherwise be.

All in all, though I tend to be a proponent for the rights of mentally ill defendants and am not a death penalty proponent in most cases, this case begs for the death penalty. After all, if any crime meets the standard of “heinous, atrocious and cruel”, it’s this one. I just can’t help but think that, if Edward Covington isn’t executed, perhaps no one should be executed.

Again, Orlando is in the news. Living in south Florida for about 30 years I have heard if you live here long enough you will either get hooked on Jesus or hooked on drugs.

Look at Tiger Woods, Burt Reynolds and other people that have acheived great success that have a huge void in their souls. Eric Clapton fills this hole by helping addicts.

A priest at the Diocese of Palm Beach explained years ago the Pope put out an order for “Exercism Squads” because the requests for exercisms has exploded. The same priest said they have candidates tested for months to make sure there isn’t a medical or psychiatric issue that needs treatment. Some non-Catholic churchs actually harm people that are not possessed but are in need of medical care.

From Orlando to the Keys, there is everything a person could desire. In the Chaplet of St. Michael “Depraved Passions” are a part of how we are created in the human flesh. We need to walk the walk as “Faith without works is dead”.

Maybe Tiger and Burt got together because Loni Anderson’s book “My life in High Heels” told her side of the story and made him out to be a beast. I’m not saying he is innocent, just there is often more to a story.

Read it again. I didn’t say Methadone was not useful for addicts. I merely pointed out that it is both addictive and potentially as dangerous as the drug it is replacing, and that it is also abused in and of itself. That is absolutely true, whether you want to accept it or not.
